OUR WINERY IN VALPOLICELLA
SCRIANI AGRICULTURAL COMPANY
OUR HISTORY AND VALUES
In a territory priding itself on its wineries’ historical value, Scriani speaks in a clear, simple, and honest way.
Our agricultural company was born from a small plot of land, rented by a father to his son, “just” thirty years ago. Our family is like many others and has shared their desire to engage in working the fields as well as their perseverance typical of those who perform manual activities.
Our winery, focused on the production and sale of Valpolicella wines, evolved and immediately became a “family business”. Every member has been involved and has actively participated. Each one follows the rhythm of winemaking in the respect of what they do best.
For Scriani, wine production represents a collective work, a choice, a responsibility towards land that gives back as much as it takes.
VALPOLICELLA LANDSCAPES AND AGRICULTURE
Fumane, the heart of Valpolicella Classica: this is where Scriani tends to his valuable vineyards, in the areas of Monte S.Urbano and La Costa.
Located at a height between 820 and 1312 feet above sea level, Scriani winery’s lands are skirted by the region’s characteristic streams channelling to small gorges covered in damp moss. These elements are typical of Valpolicella landscape. Questi elementi sono caratteristici del panorama della Valpolicella.
Vineyards are rooted in medium-textured soils whose significant components are basaltic tuffs and grey limestones. These formed the tropical seas covering the territory in the Eocene epoch. The terrain is particularly suitable for the cultivation of vineyards which produce premium quality wines, including the renowned Amarone della Valpolicella.
We arrange guided tours of Scriani winery and its plots of land. Book the one you prefer in the Experiences section.
During the tour in our winery in the very heart of Valpolicella, you will delve into a landscape characterised by terraced hillsides with dry-stone walls, broad fields of vineyards, cherry, and olive trees.
These hills, dotted with old farmhouses, mansions, and austere Romanesque parish churches, tell the story of those who devote their body and soul to the production and sale of Valpolicella wines. Scriani winery perfectly fits into this context and echoes the territory’s winemaking tradition.
The area of Valpolicella Classica extends for only 200 square kilometres, on the hills between Verona and Lake Garda. This unique and generous land is the cradle of grapes and wines featuring a strong character, known and appreciated since Roman times.
OUR WINERY IN VALPOLICELLA
We fully take care of vine and wine making, carrying out all the activities foreseen in its production process. Our knowledge is essential to obtain high quality standard products. Le nostre conoscenze sono indispensabili per ottenere prodotti di elevati standard qualitativi.
For our family, working the land, assembling grapes, and performing the whole process that ends with the bottles ready to be savoured is a philosophy, a way of life, a certainty.
This is Scriani’s world, 100% focused on the production and sale of Valpolicella wine. Stefano Cottini, oenologist and winery’s owner, follows each winemaking process’ step with great attention and care. Our work starts in the vineyards and ends in the French and Slavonian oak barriques in which wine ages. This technique enables us to enhance its character.
OUR VINEYARDS IN VALPOLICELLA
From the initial hectare and a half to the over thirty hectares currently owned by Scriani, vineyards’ growing has always get Stefano Cottini’s meticulous attention.
Indeed, each small plot of land is treated in detail, settled, and combed respecting the surrounding environmental balance. Fertilisers are firmly avoided to preserve nearby wooded areas, biodiversity reservoir that enhances grapes’ complexity and character.
In “Ronchiel”, “Mandolari”, “Bosco”, “Carpanè”, “Tondin”, “La Costa” estates and other small plots of land there are vines aged between 9 and 40 years, grown with traditional planting in simple and double pergola. This system is suitable for a density of about 3500 plants/ha and a production of approximately 8/10 tons/ha of top-quality grapes. These are cultivated and harvested by hand according to the best and longest winemaking tradition’s principles.
